HASS & Science Programs

Students engage in HASS & Science Programs at Leeming ESC

HASS

A cross-curricular approach to History and Social Sciences is taken across the Leeming SHS ESC middle school. Topics from the Western Australian Curriculum are integrated into Literacy, Bush Ranger and Aboriginal Education lessons. Concepts such as People and Place, Geography, Politics and History are interwoven in a timely manner to ensure differentiated, relevant and meaningful learning for all students.

Science

Students are engaged in science programs taught by all classroom teachers; implementing explicit teaching models for delivery of Science Understanding, Science as a Human Endeavour and Science Inquiry Skills. The program is highly engaging with hands-on practical activities and strong links to STEAM experiences, the Australian Curriculum and Leeming SHS ESC Bush Ranger Cadet Program. All students are immersed in practical science application, differentiated across all classes to ensure maximum participation and impact for all students. The after school STEAM club is a new initiative at Leeming SHS ESC. The program runs each Thursday for one hour over an eight week period, led by our highly dedicated STEAM Committee. Select students are invited to participate in innovative tasks based on the STEAM principle of integrated learning of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics. In addition to being delivered across the curriculum within classrooms, the after school program provides further opportunities for students to explore technology in a hands-on environment, exploring coding and building circuits to demonstrate the importance of electricity and computers in the modern world. Additional themes will run on a term by term basis.
