Year 10 Curriculum

Year 10 is the transition year from middle to senior schooling; students are introduced to work experience through supported programmes and are equipped with the preliminary skills required for work in the wider world. All students in Year 10 will be enrolled in a combination of endorsed programmes through the Schools Curriculum Standards Authority and School Developed Programmes. Specialist programmes such as Home Economics, Art and Physical Education support students in gaining life skills and recreational experiences.

Students are engaged in a daily functional numeracy program delivered by staff using an explicit teaching model. Utilising the WA Curriculum, Leeming SHS ESC has developed a targeted numeracy program. With a particular focus on practical mathematical application in time, money and measurement. Numeracy lessons are targeted to individual areas of need identified through classroom and school wide assessment.

Students in year 10 have a work skills development focus while using a Comprehensive Literacy approach. This offers a framework for classroom application of comprehensive literacy instruction, practical literacy strategies and built-in assessment methodology. The aspects of this approach are comprised of self-directed reading, guided reading, working with words and writing and are implemented in a cross-curricular format embedding literacy development in daily learning activities.

Workright provides a framework to develop a range of transferable employability skills in preparation for work experience. ASDAN Workright is a prerequisite to the ADWPL course which students will undertake in Years 11 – 12.

The E Safety module focuses on being safe while online. From mobile phone use to social media scams, students explore ways they can be safe in a digital world. Practical application of these skills combined with engaging lessons and examples of how to protect personal information and navigate the obstacles of digital platforms are delivered weekly.
